Japan’s Novice, Junior and Senior Nationals are held as 3 separate events in October, November, and December, respectively. The top 4 Novice ladies and top 3 Novice men at Novice Nationals in Kyoto (Novices compete free skate only) were invited to compete in Junior Nationals in Tokyo. The top 6 Junior ladies and 5 of the top 6 Junior men have been invited to compete at Senior Nationals, December 20-24, 2012, in Hokkaido, according to this Japan Skating Federation (PDF, in Japanese).
